Ecology

Egg

An egg that listens to surrounding sounds with large ears. If you want to find water in the desert, follow the direction in which the ears sprouting from the egg are pointing.

Hatch

Drawn by sounds, it wanders across the desert and sits down to photosynthesize when tired. When a desert storm blows, it burrows deep underground and sometimes does not emerge for days. Deep below, the Hatch listens to the sound of flowing water and digs even deeper to obtain clear, clean water.

Hatchling

It searches for flowing water beneath the desert ground. Though its digging skills are still lacking, only yielding enough water for itself to drink, it gradually finds larger waterways and occasionally creates springs by chance. When moving, it sweeps away its tracks with its tail, and takes turns standing guard in groups while digging the ground.

Adult

It is the first among all desert creatures to sense danger. Its hearing is sharp enough to detect even the faint signs of a distant Sandstorm, and it is skilled at locating waterways by listening to the sound of water flowing deep underground. When forming large groups, they take turns standing guard while digging together to not only create springs, but also complete oases where plants grow and weary souls can rest. Settling near an oasis, it spends midday sitting under the sun photosynthesizing, but because it erases its tracks with its tail whenever it moves, few have ever seen it. When weary travelers arrive at an oasis, Deserti hides behind sand dunes and watches over them with a sense of pride.
